Who's Protecting Our Bases?

22 dead in rocket attack on U.S. base in Mosul
13 U.S. soldiers reported among dead hit in crowded dining hall

That was the headline I just read. Our bases should be virtually impenetrable fortresses. They should be the few places in Iraq that are actually well-protected, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Our soldiers should have a safe haven to retreat to when they're not out fighting. Someone really needs to get this situation under control.

Nice to see your POV Matthew, but I'm a New Yorker, but it was 'my' city so to speak, that was attacked by the terrorists. I understand Bush's POV for going to attack the 'terrorists'.

But in my opinion, if you read what Osama said about his whole attack before our election, as bad as it is, I agreed with him about all his points. I agree that as much as we have to protect our interests overseas, we should not be butting into things that do not involve us. making countries into democracies, and trying to mold people into something they are not. the so-called WMDs that iraq claimed to have.

i know saddam is a bad man, and i know there are so many bad leaders out there, but you can't fight every war. look at fidel, he runs a dictatorship, but you don't see bush attacking him.

my whole point... you look for terrorists abroad, but what about domestic terrorists? the oklahoma city bombing? that was not done by any middle eastern man, it was done by a caucasian. look at the unibomber, he wasn't middle eastern either. bush is just too much into foreign policy, where it doesn't help the domestic. anyone can be a terrorist, any race, you are too busying fighting things abroad you don't see the domestic issues.

i support our troops, but i don't support the war...

I have to say, I'm not a big Bush fan and I happen to be a Blue Stater, but I don't feel like arguing. It's Christmas!!!! Let's drink egg nog and sing "O, Christmas Tree" (which happens to also be the tune to my Alma Mater's school song "o Maryland something or another..Go Terps!)

Anyways, I was completely disheartened by the election results. (I guess I am talking..guess I can't shut up!) So much so, that I was sooo depressed I didn't feel like doing much of anything. I envisioned a better America and to me that vision didn't include Bush. I wasn't for the war, because I'm a peacenik and I don't think we should be butting into other people's business. But, then I changed my mind when I saw how happy the Iraqis were when we got rid of Saddam's regime. Then, I figured we had done something good. Then I saw everything going to hell. So, I came to the conclusion that maybe the war wasn't such a bad idea, but the lack of a plan for after the war pissed me off. I think if things had been handled the right way in the first place, then we wouldn't have lost the Iraqi people's trust and, thus, paved the way for the insurgents.

Well, the election is over and the people have spoken, whether I agree or not. And, we're already over there at war, so there's no turning back. I can only hope and pray that the right things will be done to bring this war to an end as soon as possible. And, I hope the politicians will get off their butts and make sure our troops are safe. Unfortunately, we can't just leave Iraq now. We're responsible now. We have to fix things. I just wish these guys would come up with a better plan!!!

(P.S. I don't like Bush's stand on environmental issues, so that's another reason for my Bush viewpoint.)
